Philosophy of Photography
We consider photography to be many things. In particular, we like to think of photography as...
...exploration. By taking photos, we are able to understand the people around us, their lives, and what is important to them. The camera gives us a way to see differently — an objective lens — and through this new perspective, we learn.
...expression. Each image we create offers us change to say "something." Regardless of how and why the image was made, the photo communicates with its viewers. We use that to share an idea, a feeling, information, or a personal message.
...a vehicle. When photographing people, the images we create present our subjects with the opportunity to communicate with those who view the photos. We strive to commence a dialog between the subject and the viewer.
...understanding. When faced with new and foreign situations, we compare them to what we know and attempt to record them in terms of our experiences. Studying subjects through photography we bridge differences and broker understanding of new ideas, objects, or people. The goal is to convey this understanding and sense of acceptance to the viewer.
...a gift. We love and appreciate the history of photography. And the act of making photos. We try, for each subject with which we interact, to share this perspective. By giving back to them that what we produce, we hope to provoke the sense of exploration and wonder that we find in ourselves.
